Last week the Richter Glasgow team attended the ConstructEd awards and showcase event. It was excellent to celebrate the achievements of the students and see the impact the program has in providing opportunities to young people.
At Richter, we’re grateful to have received an award in recognition of our support to the ConstructEd Scotland schemes over the last year.
The ConstructEd programme provides project weeks for students from high school through to university to put theory into practice and gain hands-on experience equipping them for the working world, specifically in construction.
Participants run a construction project over a 3-5 day period starting with only engineering drawings to completing the construction of a scaled version of their engineering project. In addition to the hands-on practical construction, students also deal with financial and time constraints.
In 2022, Richter engaged as an industry partner with the scheme to raise awareness of temporary works, which are often not explicitly covered in degree syllabuses.
The Richter team attended both the Glasgow University and Glasgow Caledonian University site weeks to discuss with the students what temporary works needed to be considered in their designs, how this information is recorded on site and the importance of temporary works in ensuring site safety.
We are looking forward to continuing our support, attending the upcoming project weeks in the coming year and engaging with the future of our industry.
